How to find the right product or service to sell? How you can have the clarity you need to stat your business?
You can start by checking your skills. A great first step is to identify skills people would happily pay for.
Here we list some steps to help you to define what to sell:
1. Ask people around you..
On our business plan challenge, one of the first exercises is to ask your friends, colleagues and family what is your superpower.
Maybe your friends will give a very generic answer, so rephrase a bit the question and ask is there is any remarkable skill that they admire or they are impressed by.
The results can be surprising, because you may not consider the answers as skills or you thought that skills was not that special. Chances are, you take yourself for granted. We all have skills, unique and powerful skills.
A second part of this step is to ask yourself: When my friends call me for help, what they ask? a great product or service to sell is the one that conveniently solves a problem. It doesn't need to be a revolutionary, huge or complicated solution. Your product can be simple but exceptionally effective.
2. Have you achieved something especial or did you go through unique transformations?
Think about yourself, your life, your struggles. Maybe you have been doing changes on your diet and exercises routines to become more active and healthier. Or you have relocated to several countries and you know now how to adapt quickly and almost become local after a few months.
What’s your biggest transformation? Maybe you become vegetarian and you start creating different recipes and now all your family and friends love your veggie meals.
These are things you can offer as a service, teach people how to achieve the same transformations or you can also create products around.
3. What do you like to do?
Where do you spend your time? you can spend hours reading about the latest trends of certain apps? you love travelling and now you know very well how to buy really cheap flights? Think about the knowledge you’ve gained after spending so many hours doing what you like to do.
What are you passionate about? Maybe you love to paint and create original artwork, or you love to keep everything organized and you invest a lot of time reading and creating solutions so your workspace and home looks very neat ( think about Marie Kondo).
Being an entrepreneur isn’t all a bed of roses. Being passionate will
definitely help carry you through hard times. So, check your passions and your hobbies because your business idea can be right there.
Now that you have your business idea, it's time to move forward...
the next step is validating your idea.
