Here at Creative Town, supporting female artists and promoting new talent has been at the heart of what we do since the very beginning of International Creative Women. Many artists have moved to NL in the last years and we know how tough breaking into any market can be!
We strongly believe in the importance of supporting these creative women and considering that visibility is KEY for artists, we have decided to transform Creative Town into an art gallery for one weekend every month, so we can offer a place to the new artists in town.
You can also support them. You can visit their exhibitions, follow and share their work on social media, and of course, you can buy from women artists whose work resonates with you.
Do skies make you feel tiny?

Nostalgia
Nostalgia is a multi-disciplinary exhibition with a proposal, which includes paintings, illustrations, ceramics, and jewelry. In this exhibition the artist seeks to internalize various emotions and feelings, through her relationship with others, and with the dream spaces that inhabit her memory. Nostalgia presents the metaphor of love, pain and desire. That encounter with what once was, for Yma Sumac Gonzales, to paint again after a period of pause, has been a reunion with her most intense emotions, from the tender and joyful to the frustration and fear.
It has been to feel the kind and delicate contact of her children again like when they were little. Feeling like a mother and protector of a bird, who had to let fly on its own destiny. To return to her grandmother´s house back in the Peruvian Andes, where her earliest and intense memories, full of dreams, adventures and enigmas took place.
In her works we find metaphorical and symbolic elements, through which the artist opens the doors of her interior world, and allows us to see what lives in her, through a rich range of colours and suggestive shapes.
On the other hand, the Peruvian artist presents us the ceramics that she has been developing in different stages and moments of her life in the Netherlands. A part of this series of works represents the exteriorization of her feelings in a stage of struggle and pain. The other part is rather mystic and dreamy.
The series of illustrations, playful and in mixed technique, that are presented on cards are a compilation that has been designed over the last 30 years in various spaces and cultural contexts. Her spaces, characters and colours are almost magical and dreamlike. This exhibition marks a visual route for us to immerse ourselves in the richness of her personal worldview.
Yma is a multi-disciplinary artist; her artwork is strongly influenced by her childhood in the Peruvian Andes. She had the opportunity to live in different cities during her younger days, where she showed a great fascination for the unique colours and shapes that are seen all over her country. Over the years, she has been exploring different aspects of creativity; painting, ceramics, illustration, photography, and childrens’ and womens’ fashion. Her most recent passion is the design of jewelry using the inlay technique, inherited from her ancestors, the Incas. The artist translates emotions, memories, and feelings where colour plays an indispensable role.
Opening: May 27th 14:00
The Inner Journey
This art exposition brings for the first time two artists together: Susan Steenhuis and Patricia Franco. Both are from different backgrounds but they have similarities in their lives.
After many years of doing different kinds of work, and being busy with other things, they come back to their passion: Art and Painting. It's through their art that they find themselves again, to rediscover what at some point seemed to have been left aside. Spirituality, feelings, emotions, and compassion shown in very different ways are important topics in their paintings.
Susan uses warm colors and mixed media materials to create psychological atmospheres and spiritual landscapes. Her work is encouraging, light-hearted, and often celebratory. Patricia uses strong colors and symbols giving an own interpretation of ancient pre-Columbian art to express the idea of infinity and the role of the human being in the world.
This exhibition is about the journey that transcends nationality, gender, or circumstances. It’s a spiritual quest for one’s own happiness. This is the journey into the heart.

Margarita Cruz is an artist of atmosphere paintings. She paints still lives, cityscapes with a note of impressionism.
Using a tool like a palette knife allows her to express the beauty and "joie de vivre" (joy of living). She creates art to make people feel cosy. Enrich their places with a positive vibe and emotions. Daily inspire them to enjoy life.
She adores thick and visible strokes of oil paint. It makes a painting look textured and vivid. She also finds her inspiration in colours. For her, colour + texture this is what is charming and touching! Her works are in private collections in The Netherlands, Spain, USA and Australia.
Now she is working on a new collection with feminine portrayals. For part of her life, she photographs beauty in people being true selves. During these photoshoots, she can see a person's soul and then create artwork with that image.

Shuen-Li is exhibiting tiger portraits with the extraordinary traditional art from Indonesia: Batik.
Shuen is from Singapore and has been living in the Netherlands for 6 years now, but her roots are in Indonesia. She spent several years in Indonesia, reconnecting with the land of her grandmother and learning the remarkable Batik Technique.
In this unique exhibition, all the portraits are portrayed the same but expressed in different colours as a representation of many differences that we are learning to live with. The artworks are inspired by her cat, Totoro. Feeling alone for so long, she fell apart until Toto came into her life. For Shuen, Tiger is about being brave enough to be gentle to yourself and others even when they are not gentle towards you.
During this exhibition you can meet the artist, buy her pieces and learn Batik! Shuen will be introducing visitors to Batik techniques, tools and dye. She will also demonstrate the use of the tool called Tjanting, which helps direct the flow of molten wax on fabric.

Painting my food
Payal Puthran is exhibiting food and recipe illustrations during this two-day art show.
Food, to her, is an emotion that connects and unites people. More than the sights, what stays with Payal long after visiting a new land is the local food. Being an expat since a decade, it is but natural to be hit by those waves of nostalgia. During one such phase, she started creating paintings of food from her hometown, Mangalore, India. As time went by, she created paintings of local Dutch food as memorabilia for her expat friends leaving the Netherlands.
Recipe illustrations materialized out of mindless doodling while listening to her mother’s instructions of making an Indian dessert over the phone. Today, Payal enjoys breaking down a recipe into painted-out steps and has created nostalgic illustrations for her clients over India, US and Europe.
Visit her exhibition showing painted 'Stroopwafel's, 'Dropjes', 'Haring' and recipes for 'Stampot', 'Chai', 'Biryani' amongst others.
Payal Puthran is an Indian artist living in the Netherlands since a decade. She began her art career with ethnic style of art, heavily inspired from her Indian roots. Payal also creates paintings of recipes and food passed down from generations. She prefers using acrylic paints in her artwork and strives to achieve a semi-realistic look. Payal has been creating artwork digitally and continuous to learn and apply new techniques
During these special weekends , visitors have the chance to meet new artists, hear their stories, and of course get unique pieces.
Each exhibition has a different flavour, a different vibe, reflecting the roots and journeys from the artist.
We are really happy and proud to support female artists and their creative endeavours.
These exhibitions also help us to connect. Art binds, and this initiative shows it perfectly. Internationals and locals get together to get inspired, to reflect and to build connections that transcend differences.
