“Seriously Silly’’ investigates strange ideas and behaviours in our society. Prejudice, myths, feminism, war and the meaning of life ”
Guntra Laivacuma is an artist and a graphic designer. She studied at Riga School of design and art and in 2019 she obtained a bachelor's degree at Design Academy Eindhoven. She combined her methodic design thinking and artistic expression to establish her studio Guntra Works, where she creates unique paintings as well as graphic design for performers, scientists and startup businesses alike. In her work, she aims to inspire spectators to reflect on society by creating art that juxtaposes ‘serious’ and 'silly’ ideas of our world. Guntra has exhibited at Creative Town, Eindhoven and The Embassy of Latvia in The Netherlands, The Hague.
The collection ‘‘Seriously Silly’’ investigates strange ideas and behaviours in our society. Prejudice, myths, feminism, war and the meaning of life are some of the topics Guntra explores. She uses second hand objects as a canvas and inspiration to reflect on the world through abstract portraits, vibrant colours and unusual characters. Instead of putting more objects into the world, Guntra carefully selects these commodities to project another story and so another value on them. Guntra’s work helps her to better understand the world around her and find some comfort in this crazy, seriously silly world.
‘’Through the glass’’ for Guntra is a point of view, a lens through which she sees the world around her, the mirror which reflects our humanity.
